Take a look back a decade ago at what was happening in the Association and real estate market in 2000.
- Henry Scholz was RVAR President.
- The year began with 931 Realtors and 99 firms.
- 4,195 homes were sold through the MLS in 2000, with an average price of $138,250.
- RVAR’s standard forms first went online with ZipForms.
- Much of the year was focused on selecting the next MLS system. RVAR chose VISTAinfo.com, an Internet based MLS system which was described as ‘a giant leap’.
- Doug Sawyer was named RVAR’s Realtor of the Year.
- Scott Vaughan was named RVAR’s Affiliate of the Year.
- RVAR initiated sales production awards for teams, as well as rules for team advertising.
- Dennis Cronk served as NAR’s President. In the fall, Doug Sawyer was installed as VAR’s President. (So for 7 weeks, RVAR could claim both offices.)
- Bill Gearhart finished 8 years of service on the Virginia Real Estate Board. Ron Owens was appointed to serve on this Board.
- RVAR began participating in “Christmas in April”, a program to rehabilitate homes on the last Saturday in April. RVAR still participates in this program, now called Rebuilding Together.
