2016 Board of Directors Confirmed |

The RVAR 2016 Board of Directors has been confirmed. With one petition filed, there were no contested seats, thus no election by ballot is required this fall. Congratulations to these newly elected Officers: 2016 President-elect Kathy Chandler (MKB) and 2016 Vice President Connie Hash (MKB). Congratulations also to the following newly elected Directors: Jerry Cohen (Park Place), Neil Conner (The Real Estate Group) and Walter Grewe (Long & Foster). Previously elected to serve in 2016: President Donna Marie Harris (Long & Foster), Past President Vic Coffey (RE/MAX All Stars) and Directors Becky Fields (BHHS Preimer), Fred Hall (BHHS Premier), Adam Lynch (Berkshire Hathaway SML) and Renee Wiggins (RE/MAX All Stars.) RVAR Endorces Candidates in Area Races |

RVAR's Board of Directors has endorsed candidates in upcoming area contested elections. Special thanks to RVAR's Governmental Affairs Committee for its efforts to conduct interviews in the contested races for these seats. The Board endorsed the following candidates for the Virginia Senate:  Senate District 19 Mike Hamlar
| Senate District 21 | Senate candidates were interviewed on issues related to economic development, regional cooperation, transportation and the Grantor's tax. Virginia's RPAC Trustees have approved a $1,500 RPAC contribution for Senator Edwards and a $500 RPAC contribution for Mr. Hamlar. The Board endorsed the following candidates for the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors: 
Catawba District Cave Spring District Martha Hooker George Assaid Roanoke County candidates were interviewed on issues related to ecomonic growth, expanding regional cooperation and improving the working relationship amongst the Board of Supervisors. The endorsed candidates will each receive a $700 RPAC contribution. | |

Roanoke Region Offers Lowest Cost of Living in VA |
|
When it comes to cost of living, Roanoke offers the best value of any metro in Virginia. Numbers released by the Council for Community and Economic Research for the 2nd quarter of 2015 rank the Roanoke metro area as having the lowest cost of living index in the state. With an index of 89.7, costs in Roanoke are 10.3 lower than the national average of 100. The numbers put Roanoke well below the national average for costs and ahead of similarly sized metro markets in the South such as Richmond (93.7), Asheville (96.6) and Chattanooga (94.1). New York City ranked highest in cost of living with an index more than twice the national average (219.7). The Cost of Living Index measures regional differences in the cost of housing, utilities, grocery items, transportation, health care and miscellaneous goods and services.
