Blue Ridge Parkway Overlooks to Get Face Lift |

The iconic Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks are getting a face lift. Work will commence the week of November 3rd to clear trees and debris from Parkway vistas in the Roanoke Region, restoring the original views from the numerous overlooks. Over the years, budget cuts have limited the amount of work done. The uninhibited growth has rendered many overlooks useless when it comes to views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A team of National Park Service Arborist Incident Responders will be wielding their chainsaws. The team will begin their work at the Peaks of Otter and move south through the Roanoke Valley to Adney Gap -- 20 miles south of Roanoke -- over six days, clearing up to 90 overlooks. |

Economic Growth Accelerates in the Roanoke Region |

New data released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis shows that Roanoke is the second leading growth economy in the Commonwealth and that Roanoke's economy is growing at its fastest rate in more than five years. Roanoke's economy is growing faster than more than half of US metros. Roanoke's gross metropolitan product is over 13 billion and is the fourth largest metro economy in Virginia. Dykstra Named Virginia's REALTOR® of the Year |
 | Congratulations to Mary Dykstra of MKB, REALTORS® who was named Virginia's REALTOR® of the Year on October 7th at VAR's Annual Convention. Mary was recognized for her outstanding dedication to the Roanoke Valley, Virginia and National Associations of REALTORS®. Her volunteer efforts in our community were also acknowledged during the award presentation.
