Flood Insurance Extended Until May 31

On Friday, December 21st, Congress passed an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program until May 31, avoiding a lapse that would have begun that night. The President is expected to sign the bill.

NAR appeciates that Congress extended the National Flood Insurance Program before it expired; however, continues to encourage lawmakers to craft responsible, long-term reauthorization that includes meaningful reforms.

UPDATE: On Thursday, December 27th, FEMA ruled that the flood insurance program cannot be extended during the government shutdown. On Friday, December 28th, FEMA reversed its position -- thanks in part to efforts by NAR, Congress and several insurance organizations. FEMA will resume issuing and renewing flood insurance policies.
