RVAR 2009: A Decade Ago Print

Let’s take a look back a decade ago at what was happening in the Association and real estate market in 1999:

  • Elaine Bell was RVAR President. (Elaine Waddell is retired and lives in S.C.)
  • The year began with 906 REALTORS, 98 firms and 190 Affiliate members.
  • 3,583 homes were sold through the MLS in 1999, with a median price of $126,507 and average price of $136,737.
  • 59% of RVAR members had an email address, according to RVAR’s tech survey.
  • Steve Lambert joined the staff as RVAR’s Tech Specialist.
  • Agents received a new Supra key and said goodbye to LENI (Supra’s first computerized phone system was very difficult to understand. LENI was replaced with KIM.)
  • Walter White was named RVAR’s REALTOR of the Year.
  • Pat and Carl Ball of Home Team Inspection were named RVAR’s Affiliates of the Year.
  • The MLS system was redesigned in the fall. The data in the MLS book and online were reorganized to appear in the same order (that had been a big complaint.)
  • Dennis Cronk was installed as NAR’s President in November.
