| What Do the Committees Do? |

Below is a listing of all the RVAR committees, their functions, frequency of meetings, and who is eligible for each. All committee members are volunteers and each committee member must also be a member of RVAR. ADVERTISING ADVISORY COMMITTEE – Monitors REALTOR advertising in all media, recommends changes to the Advertising Rules & Regulations as needed. Only REALTORS are eligible for this committee. Committee meets quarterly. AFFILIATES COMMITTEE – Plan and implement all aspects of the annual Affiliates Night Trade Expo, including selection of date, menu, theme and decorations. Affiliates and REALTORS are eligible for this committee. Committee meets often during first ½ of year; afterwards, only as needed. AWARDS COMMITTEE – Reviews and presents Distinguished Service Awards and makes recommendations for changes in the awards criteria. Only REALTORS are eligible for this committee. Committee meets as needed. COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE – Serve as RVAR’s ambassadors to the community. Participates in events throughout the year such as Rebuilding Together, as well as helping plan fundraisers such as the Charity Gala & Auction. Reviews and makes recommendations regarding new charities eligible for RVAR support. Affiliates and REALTORS may participate in this committee. Committee meets monthly. EDUCATION COMMITTEE – Assists with implementation of all educational events including New Member Orientation and Fair Housing; and planning designation courses such as GRI, ABR & CRS as well as the Michael J. Aheron Memorial Legal Update, and any other educational events at the Committee’s discretion. Affiliates and REALTORS are eligible for this Committee. Committee meets monthly during first 1/2 of year; afterwards, only as needed. GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE – Lobbies state legislators on REALTOR issues; interviews local candidates for General Assembly, City Council and Board of Supervisors. Both REALTORS and Affiliates may serve on this committee. Committee meets as needed. GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE – Investigates all complaints against REALTORS alleging unethical conduct; determines if complaints warrant a formal disciplinary hearing. Only REALTORS are eligible for this committee. Committee meets as needed. MLS MONITORING COMMITTEE – Monitors all MLS listings to ensure that all data is complete, accurate and in compliance with the MLS rules. Only REALTORS may serve on this committee. Committee meets quarterly. MLS POLICY COMMITTEE – Makes recommendations for changes in RVAR’s MLS System and the MLS. Also plans the annual MLS Tech Forum. Only REALTORS may serve on this committee. Committee meets most months. PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS COMMITTEE – Conducts all ethics hearings; also conducts arbitration hearings to settle commission and procuring cause disputes. (Service on the Grievance Committee is prerequisite). Only REALTORS may serve on this committee. Hearings scheduled as needed. PROGRAM & SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE – Plans and presents all RVAR social functions such as the Installation of New Officers and Directors, the Charity Gala & Auction, and REALTOR After Hours. Also serves as registration for other RVAR events. Affiliates and REALTORS both welcome on this committee. Committee meets as needed to plan each event. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE – Work with a consultant to design RVAR’s annual PR campaign to promote the REALTOR image and present messages to the public. Both REALTORS and Affiliates are eligible for this committee. Committee meets often during the first part of the year. STANDARD FORMS COMMITTEE – Oversees the wording of all RVAR standard forms. Only REALTORS are eligible for this committee. Committee meets most months. TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE – Explores new technology as it pertains to REALTORS and the MLS. REALTORS and Affiliates may serve on this Committee. Committee meets most months. |
